A group of local authorities is looking for contractors for £800m of roads-related construction work.
Central Bedfordshire Council published a formal procurement notice for the Eastern Highways Alliance Framework 4.
The deal will cover structural, surfacing, road and capital projects across 11 local authority areas.
Work going through the framework is expected to include highways, bridges and subways alongside public realm enhancements, waste management facilities and other related jobs.
Canal works, culverts and retaining walls could also be procured through the deal.
Lot one will cover individual schemes worth up to £5m, lot two from £5m to £30m and lot three will deal with larger projects.
Work will take place across a swathe of the country, including Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and Kent.
Duties are likely to include surveying, planning, civil engineering, construction, commercial services and asset management. Laboratory and construction-material testing capabilities may be required, as might environmental, ecological and landscape services.
Parties interested in the four-year framework have until midday on 5 August to throw their hat in the ring.
Candidates can compete for all three lots, and bids will be judged 60 per cent on quality and 40 per cent on cost.
Galliford Try and Colas were among 15 contractors selected for £300m of road surfacing work in Yorkshire last month.
Meanwhile, Norfolk County Council in March made contractors aware of a forthcoming £500m highways contract. Procurement was expected to start in December, according to a prior information notice, with the contract coming into force in April 2026 and potentially lasting for an initial 12 years, although that had not been finalised.
