Council invites contractor interest in £100m primary schools tender

Worcestershire County Council has issued a tender for a new £100m design and construction framework for new primary schools.

Interested firms have until noon on 15 July to bid for the 10-year New Primary School Design and Build Programme.

A council spokesperson told Construction News that the contract is for up to seven schools with the locations still to be confirmed.

The council said it envisaged four bidders, from whom it will select a single winner for the non-renewable framework.

The design of the first school will “form a model for the future schools”, it stated.

A 10-year timeframe was chosen to “maximise the economic advantage of this model and the benefit from the economies of scale it will generate”, the council added.

An update of planned projects, released by the council in March, estimated that £40m would fund the design and construction of six new primary schools in Worcestershire.

Meanwhile, data from construction intelligence provider Glenigan shows that extension or alteration plans have been approved for a dozen primary schools in the county:

  • Broadwas Primary School
  • Northwick Manor Primary School
  • Cranham Primary School
  • Clifton upon Teme Primary School
  • Cherry Orchard Primary School
  • Madresfield Primary School
  • Fort Royal Primary School
  • Chawson County Primary School
  • Stanley Road Primary School
  • Pitmaston Primary School
  • Claines Primary School
  • North Worcester Primary Academy
