Identifying Triggers in Your Marriage

Guy and Amber Lia were convinced that they’d made a mistake as soon as they got married. Neither had communication skills to work through differences. Both reacted to each other instead of responding. Only a short time after their wedding, their relationship spiraled, and they considered throwing in the towel.

Every dating couple imagines marriage as a string of mountaintop experiences. We can’t fathom romance fading. We can’t foresee our conversations not stretching into the wee hours of the night. And disagreements? What disagreements?

Once we’re married, however, our expectations usually hit speed bumps. There’s the monotony of work, of responsibilities around the house, of paying bills week-in and week-out. There are also stressors – a job loss, the death of a loved one, financial struggles, the birth of children. Real life sets in, and the dreams we have for our marriage begin to fade.

For a relationship to last, it must emerge out of the intensity of passionate romance and put down deep roots that are formed through day-to-day experience.

On our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Identifying Triggers in Your Marriage,” Guy and Amber Lia share why they stayed together, how they found true peace in Christ, and what they did to address marital tension. They’ll help you cast a new vision for your marriage and learn how to temper your dreams with less fairy tale and more real life.

Amber and Guy Lia are relationship coaches and co-owners of a faith and family production company in Los Angeles. Listen to my full conversation with them on your local radio station, online, on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, via Google Podcasts, or take us with you on our free phone app.
