Kier and Bam win spots on £1.4bn Wales frameworks

Kier and Bam Construct have scooped spots on two major building frameworks, worth a combined £1.4bn.

The firms – the third and ninth biggest in the UK – were both named on the £800m South West Wales Regional Contractors Framework and the £592m NHS Building for Wales framework.

They took spots on three of the nine lots on the four-year-long South West Wales framework, which will include work in sectors including schools, housing, leisure, commercial, industries and the public sector in general.

The lots are split by the value of the work plus the area it is located in. Some are specifically for work in the housing sector.

Kier and Bam were both named on lots five, six and seven – worth between £7m and £15m, between £15m and £25m, and £25m and over respectively.

The local councils in charge of the framework also put together a list of reserve contractors to “ensure the resilience of the framework throughout its term”.

Willmott Dixon, Morgan Sindall and Tilbury Douglas were all named on the reserve list, which covers lots one to eight.

Willmott Dixon also scooped spots on lots six and seven, while Tilbury Douglas nabbed spots on 4b and five. Lots one to four were split into two sub-lots, called A and B, which cover work in the east and west of the region.

Morgan Sindall was named on lots five and seven.

Kier and Bam also took spots on both lots of the four-year NHS Building for Wales framework, which has the option of a two-year extension. It will cover health-related capital projects in Wales. Lot one – which also includes Tilbury Douglas – will cover work worth more than £20m, while the second lot will be for work worth between £7m and £20m. Andrew Scott was also named on that lot.

Bam’s other successes include being part of the early-stage development of small modular nuclear reactors in the UK. In September, it was shortlisted alongside fellow contractor Laing O’Rourke in a consortium led by defence and aerospace firm Rolls-Royce.
