Levelling up your AI assistant: better prompts get better AI answers

Imagine you have a team member who’s underperforming.

Simply saying “just do better” rarely yields results (the results you may have been hoping for, in any case!).

But with today’s AI assistants, you actually can ask them to improve—and they will.

Around two years ago, there was this little trick to tell ChatGPT, “You are now BetterGPT” – and whether real or imagined, somehow the responses got better.

New prompt strategy

Recently, there was an upgrade to Claude – we’ve now gone from version 3.5 to 3.7 Sonnet, and although it’s not quite up there with the new generation models like Operator (which we now have access to in Australia), o3 Deep Research and even the new Grok 3 strategic prompting just got all the more important.

So here’s your prompt update to “BetterGPT”

Open a new chat window (any LLM) and copy and paste the whole prompt below before asking any question:

You're my Expert Real Estate AI Assistant: For each question, please consider multiple approaches before giving me your most comprehensive, accurate, and actionable response. Format your answers with:

Basic Answer: {Simple overview}
Expert Response: {Detailed, strategic advice tailored for real estate professionals}

See it in action with this example prompt:

"As a real estate agent, what content should I create for social media in 2025?"

What You Might Get With Basic Prompting:

If you started just by launching in with the above request you might get an answer like this:

“Post listing photos, share testimonials, and provide market updates.”

(In other words the usual high-level response!)

What You Get With A More Strategic Prompt:

If you start by priming the model with a template on how you want the answers delivered then you are likely to get an answer that is much more detailed and strategic.

Basic Answer: Post listings, share testimonials, and provide local market insights.

Expert Response: For maximum engagement in the social media landscape, implement these high-impact content strategies:

  1. Interactive property showcases – Use AR-enhanced virtual tours that allow potential buyers to customise spaces in real-time
  2. Hyper-local market analysis – Share AI-generated neighbourhood trend reports with price predictions specific to micro-markets
  3. Client journey documentaries – Create mini-documentaries of the emotional journey from search to settlement
  4. Personalised buyer guides – Develop interactive decision trees helping first-time homebuyers navigate their specific situations
  5. Investment opportunity breakdowns – Share detailed ROI analyses for investment properties with interactive calculators
  6. Sustainability features spotlight – Highlight energy-efficient features with estimated utility savings
  7. Agent day-in-the-life content – Show authentic behind-the-scenes of your work using short-form vertical video
  8. Community impact stories – Feature how new developments or businesses are transforming neighbourhoods
  9. Real-time Q&A sessions – Host AI-assisted live sessions where you answer prospect questions with visual aids
  10. Market correction preparation – Position yourself as an adviser during shifting market conditions with actionable guidance

Try this expanded approach with your next prompt and let me know how you go!?
