Mace has appointed a new head of civil and structural engineering.
Martin Feakes served as UK market director for buildings and as head of buildings London during 18 years in two spells with structural engineering firm Ramboll.
In between, he worked as group director at Buro Happold, acting as commercial sector lead for the Bath region from 2012 to 2014.
In his new role at Mace, he replaces Gordon Deuce, who retired at the end of last year after 27 years with the firm.
Mace said Feakes will develop the discipline of civil and structural engineering across the group.
His responsibilities will include setting the platform for engineering on projects and programmes, supporting design teams with buildability advice, developing build strategies, and optimising construction engineering and temporary works solutions.
Mace chief technical officer Stephen Jeffery said Feakes will play a vital role as Mace ramps up its business delivery strategy while continuing to pursue international growth, taking on increasingly complex and ambitious schemes.
“His experience and knowledge in the world of engineering will drive forward our offering, joining up parts of the business to ensure we always deliver the best for our clients and projects,” Jeffery said.
Feakes said: “The disciplines of civil and structural engineering are hugely impactful to our industry and society.
“Through collaboration of our engineering team with consultants, specialists and the supply chain, we can deliver on Mace’s strategy to redefine the boundaries of ambition.”
Last month, Mace chief executive Mark Reynolds hit out at clients imposing unfair contract conditions on smaller contractors in the wake of widespread insolvencies in the sector.
